I recently returned from Norfolk, VA, where I heard a number of presentations on the Navy’s implementation of IUID. Topics included the affixing of UIDs to items for lifetime use, managing UID data to the UID Registry, supporting legacy information systems and establishing marking processes.

I came away realizing that the Navy’s systems are lagging behind in supporting UID. With at least 120 legacy information systems (perhaps as many as 200) that must support various aspects of UID, including creation of the UII, validating UIDs, and periodically submitting UIDs to the UID Registry, what the Navy needs is a NMCI (Navy Marine Corps Intranet) compliant, web-based UID engine with integration APIs to support these requirements.

A2B has developed this system capability. UC! Web™ provides the integrated API capabilities to UID enable these Navy information systems.
