When WAWF is mentioned by our clients, there is typically a “groan” and telling of a not-so-flattering experience with the application, especially as it applies to UIDs. However the fact remains that more and more contracts are requiring that UID submissions take place using WAWF. So what’s the big deal?

Let’s take a closer look at these two processes:

  • WAWF supports a contracting, shipping, and receiving process.
  • UID supports a manufacturing, production, and QA process for newly manufactured assets or equipment.

The hand-off of accurate asset data or details from one process to the other requires accuracy and controls that utilize automation. (The downstream implication of getting that hand-off wrong is extraordinary, but I’ll talk more about that in a later blog.) Contract manufacturers are frequently put into a difficult situation since they must “hand jam” complex UIDs, in the correct order and configuration, into the WAWF web site.

This laborious submission process must be automated in order to manage the risk of serious error, a risk that grows more complex every day. Over the past 6-12 months, at the request of our customers, we have developed tremendous capability. The result is UC Web™ v1.5, the latest release on our web-based UID and WAWF data management software platform. It solves the submission problem quite nicely.
