If you’re working with the DoD or you’re a branch of the services, you already know there are strict guidelines to asset identification, shipments and reporting to iRAPT and IUID Registry.

Military IUID compliance needs to be a primary concern in order to keep your contract and get paid.

Audit Readiness

The US Congress is holding the DoD accountable to achieve and sustain full audit readiness. This audit readiness initiative is more than an investigation into accounting and record keeping. It’s a department-wide endeavor that will require accountability for all qualifying asset information and to be able to verify the existence and completeness of that inventory.

David Norquist, DoD Comptroller, published a recent article in the Defense News where he explained that

Norquist also stated that by Spring 2018, “We will have over 1,200 auditors inspecting the Department of Defense from book to floor and floor to book.”  Ensuring that all of the items in the Government system of record actually exist and can be produced when asked for.

IUID Compliance

Labeling and uploading all of your qualifying government property and material to the IUID Registry with an Item-Unique Identification (IUID) barcode along with detailed asset pedigree data is essential to supporting your program requirements to provide accurate inventory updates to government’s Accountable Property Systems of Record (APSR).

This involves a disciplined multi-step process – called Marking, Data Capture and Registration (MDR) – that will likely place a significant burden on your available time, personnel and resources.

IUID Marking Internally or Outsource?

When considering your MDR process it’s important to evaluate all available options including performing the task internally. But in most cases, it makes sense to have an expert Marking and Data Capture team come in and get the job done for you quickly and accurately.
