The NRF 2018 Annual Conference — Retail’s Big Show — wrapped up last week at the Javits Center in New York City. We were excited to join the Connection exhibit booth in order to showcase our cloud-based RFID tracking software solution for retailers.

RFID Technology for Retailers

RFID technology provides a number of benefits in the retail environment. Most importantly. leveraging RFID allows the retail store manager to save time and improve accuracy when performing store inventories.

By design, RFID technology is a faster system than barcode – because it is able to read multiple items with a pull of the trigger. In comparison, barcode systems are a one scan at a time technology.

RFID Technology for Retailers

Retail Customer Satisfaction

One of the repeated themes discussed at NRF 2018 Big Show was the constant challenge of improving in-store customer satisfaction. Smart retailers accept that the modern consumer is in charge and demands excellent service in today’s multi channel marketplace.

Managing inventory to a high level of accuracy is not only a smart business decision — but it’s becoming a critical component to customer satisfaction and retention. Customers are demanding that stores have the items they want on the shelf with their correct size and in their particular color.

RFID can reduce Out-of-Stocks

RFID is being embraced by retailers who are focused on improving the in-store shopping experience. Competition is driving this behavior with the need to differentiate offerings by leveraging RFID to reduce the occurrence of out of stock items. As any retail store manager will tell you — reducing out of stock items is a major key to customer retention.

Zebra Technologies published a 2017 Retail Study that showed that item level RFID tagging can reduce the number of out of stock situations by 60-80%. This fact was not lost at the Retail Big Show and there was significant excitement centered around the power of RFID technology in order to improve inventory accuracy and boost customer satisfaction.
